The atmosphere at Fixins Soul Kitchen was filled with warmth and anticipation as participants mingled over hearty dishes that paid homage to the rich traditions of soul cuisine. The aroma of fried chicken, collard greens, and cornbread wafted through the air, setting a welcoming tone for the evening's festivities. Dr. Efrem Smith, a distinguished leader and advocate for reconciliation through faith, commanded the room's attention as he reflected on the significance of the gathering. "Tonight marks a milestone," he began, his voice resonating with passion. "We are not just celebrating our achievements over the past few months but also the deep-rooted tradition of African American preaching that has shaped our communities and continues to inspire change." As applause echoed throughout the dining space, participants nodded in affirmation, feeling a sense of pride and unity. The cohort members, “The Clarion Call Of The Reconciler- African American Preaching In A Diverse Culture Compelling Preaching Cohort w/ Dr. Efrem Smith” group of 10 preachers from across the country, were eager to delve into the next day's activities, which promised to deepen their understanding of preaching in today's multicultural landscape.

The following morning at Midtown Church was abuzz with energy as the cohort reconvened for a day filled with learning and growth. After engaging in sermon preparation, participants posed thoughtful questions to the Midtown pastors and staff, seeking guidance on their unique challenges and experiences. The interactions were rich and meaningful, fostering a sense of camaraderie and shared purpose. Pastor Bob Balian, who has years of experience in effective communication, took the stage to share valuable tips for preaching that resonated deeply with the cohort members. “Communication is more than just words; it’s about connection and authenticity,” he emphasized, offering practical advice that inspired the participants to hone their craft. Pastor Susie Gamez further galvanized the group with her encouragement for them to develop their two-minute statements that describes their preaching distinctive. "Think of your preaching as a gift. What do you bring to the table? How can you make your voice heard?" she challenged them, urging each individual to reflect on their unique experiences and perspectives.
The focus on developing personal preaching statements was met with enthusiasm, as participants embraced the opportunity to articulate their calling and the impact they hoped to have on their communities. With a blend of inspiration and practical skills, the cohort emerged from the event not only as better preachers but as passionate advocates for the transformative power of the Word in a diverse culture.

As the celebration came to a close, Dr. Efrem Smith emphasized the importance of ongoing collaboration and support among the group. "This is just the beginning," he said, eyes shining with hope. "I encourage you all to continue to uplift one another as you leave here and embark on your individual journeys. Together, we are a force for reconciliation and change in our communities."

The Preaching Cohort is a partnership with The Lilly Foundation, City To City North America, and Influential Global Ministries. The cohort examines approaches to preaching and teaching for ministry in a 21st century context still grappling with racism, sexism, classism, and other forms of systemic injustice and oppression. It will explore practical ways in which preachers and teachers in the local church can engage the complex and multi-layered social issues impacting their communities and neighborhoods through the art and science of biblically rooted, theologically informed, and justice-oriented homiletics.

It sounds like the Preaching Cohort had a wonderful concluding celebration! Dr. Efrem Smith's message to inspire ongoing learning and growth in preaching is vital for all participants as they continue their journey in ministry. The certificates and Tony Evans Bible Commentary are meaningful tokens of accomplishment and resources that can aid in their development.

Having Anthony D. Bobo, Jr. and Mark E. Bobo facilitated the cohort over the past three months and provided valuable insights and mentorship for the participants. Their involvement in hosting and monitoring the celebration also highlights their dedication to the cohort's success. Celebrating the achievements and reflecting on the journey can be a powerful motivator for everyone involved.

With renewed energy and a strong sense of purpose, the participants left the two-day celebration ready to take on the challenges ahead, confident in their ability to make a difference through the art of preaching.
